Caring for your fabric
Every piece you bring home carries the story of slow hands, natural dyes, and ancient techniques. Here’s how to care for your Kalamkari, hand block prints, and kala cotton so they stay beautiful for years to come.
Wash Gently
- Hand wash separately in cold water.
- Use a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid bleach, strong stain removers, or harsh chemicals, which can strip natural dyes.
- Do not soak fabrics for too long, especially those with darker or deeper natural colours.
- Kalamkari pieces can also be dry cleaned for extra care.
Dry with Care
- Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight. Sunlight can fade natural dyes over time.
- Gently reshape the garment while damp and lay it flat or hang to dry. Avoid wringing.
Iron & Store
- Iron on the reverse side while the fabric is still slightly damp, or use a low to medium heat setting.
- Store in a cool, dry place. Wrapping naturally dyed fabrics in muslin helps them breathe and protects them from dust and humidity.
For Longer Life
- Natural fabrics soften beautifully with each wash, but washing too often can wear them out. Air your clothes after each wear to keep them fresh.
- Embrace small irregularities in colour and print — they are the maker’s mark, not flaws.
